Alt-J (∆) - Preview: "Awesome Wave"

This UK band's marriage of tech and pop and the occasional dash of folk have got me more than intrigued. Listening through most of the album you'll be impressed with the variety of mood and beats you'll find. Super melodic and mildly melancholy in one track and then it switches up for some cliffhanging drops in tempo. I'm into it to say the least. Hope these guys line up some shows in the US soon-ish. But for now... Look for their debut album to drop mid-May.

POLICA Coming to The Vera Project (Fri 2/17)

Wow. It's been too long. 2012 has found me distracted with work, yoga and friends. Could be worse I spose. Stumbled onto this band a couple weeks ago. I dig. Uber mellow but I love the floating melody, the sweet but hollow vocals (doesn't she sound foriegn?) and the occasionaly drums. I'm headed to The Vera Project next week to see them. www.theveraproject.org Not sure what to expect from the venue but needless to say... I'm curiously enthused. (Art studio, music school, live music venue, punk rock yoga classes?!) Although the "all ages" bit does sound dubious. Report to follow...

Song of the Day...

Mansions on the Moon "Leaves Fall"
Man it's been too long. Super busy at work but have some big music plans in 2012 so I should be more active. Guess the holiday season got the best of me. Here's something new from Mansions on the Moon. (Pretty girly, yes, but fits Seattle's blustery, gloomy mood today.) This song comes from their upcoming 2012 release "Light Years". The LA band is dropping cuts sporadically so here's the link for free downloads as they arrive (http://mansionsonthemoon.com/lightyears/)

Not sure how this makes me feel...

Just goes to show how varied their stuff is... I can't help but see where each one goes...

Music Monday: ST VINCENT

Playing at the intimate and recently remodeled, Neptune Theater in the U District.
OCTOBER 13th (Thursday) $15

Here's a song from Annie Clark's (St Vincent) third album, "Strange Mercy", released a few weeks ago. This Tulsa native is known for using a large variety of instrumentals and lyrics that reference frequent dualities of emotions. Is she happy? Is she sad? Both?? From song to song its hard to pigeon-hole her into one musical category or style... this only makes her more intriguing.

In one interview she remarked, "You can’t apologize your way into people’s hearts ... You have to go full force." I concur.
